Winter Storm Updates

Monday, 2/2/2026, 5:00 PM

 Dear neighbors,

The DPW crew worked on clearing Church Street from N. Main to N. Union today; they will complete it in the morning. Currently, we have two employees out due to illness so we’re running a smaller crew. Thanks to everyone who has been so thoughtful of the DPW as they continue to work in icy and difficult conditions.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Suspension of parking meter enforcement continues through Friday, February 6th to allow for additional parking.

  • Trash and Recycling collection has resumed. Please try to get trash and recycling to the street. This will be a challenge downtown, but try your best. Placing it on the sidewalk will increase the slip hazard for the DPW crew and will require more time for collection.

  • As a reminder, you cannot place items in the street to “reserve parking.” These items will be removed and may be collected by their owners at the Police Station.

  • The DPW crew will continue to make efforts at clearing parking spaces where possible. If staffing levels and time allow, additional stretches of streets may be cleared. Please continue to check Facebook and the City website for up-to-minute information regarding possible street closures.

  • While we’re used to driving on narrow streets, extra care, caution, and courtesy will be required to see us through. Please drive slowly as there are many places where visibility is reduced. And keep a sharp eye out for pedestrians at all times.

 Best,

 Andrew

Dear neighbors,

The DPW crew is out today finishing Coryell Street and Lambert Lane before clearing Swan Street and S. Main from Bridge to Ferry. Another, smaller crew is out plowing and hand-clearing.

Clearing the streets this week took eleven people, every day: four in trucks and on machines, another four to hand clear the sidewalks, one to plow, and two traffic officers. I’d like to offer my thanks to Commissioner Director John Lanza for the loan of a driver and a dump truck. Thanks also to Mayor Robin Deal of West Amwell for sending us one of their PW employees with a front loader. I’d also like to thank the Department of Transportation for clearing Bridge Street. This is not a typical activity for them and we are very grateful indeed to have this done!

I drove the entire downtown early this morning and though it is messy, there were available parking spaces on almost every block. As of 10 am, most of the Central Business District has been cleared and there are plenty of parking available.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Suspension of parking meter enforcement has been extended through Friday, February 6th to allow for additional resident parking.
  • Trash and Recycling collection will resume on Monday, February 2nd.
  • Beach chairs, traffic cones, small children, etc. cannot be used to “reserve” parking on City streets. These items will be removed and may be collected by their owners at the Police Station.
  • The salt truck will take another pass on the flat today.
  • Church Street from N. Main to N. Union will be cleared on Monday, once the crew finish their trash/recycling pick up in the Central Business District. “No Parking” signs will be posted on Sunday afternoon.
  • South Main St from Ferry to Mt. Hope will not be cleared. The “No Parking” signs were put up in error and are being removed.
  • The DPW crew will return to normal duties on Monday, though they will continue to make efforts to clear parking spaces where possible. If staffing levels and time allow, additional stretches of streets may be cleared. Please continue to check Facebook and the City website for up-to-minute information regarding possible street closures.
  • At no point in the next week is the temperature forecasted to rise above freezing. Please keep an eye on your sidewalks to ensure they stay clear of ice.
  • While we’re used to driving on narrow streets, extra care, caution, and courtesy will be required to see us through. Please drive slowly as there are many places where sight visibility is reduced. And keep a sharp eye out for pedestrians at all times.

The DPW crew will not be working this weekend. I have a lot of regular work to get caught up on over the weekend, but if you have a question, please feel free to call.

Stay warm and be well,

Andrew

Dear neighbors,

First, a great big thank you to everyone who cleared their sidewalks yesterday. In my travels, I saw only a few that hadn’t been shoveled. If you haven’t cleared your sidewalk, please do so today; the City will be hand-delivering notices that require compliance within 24 hours. The police will follow up with violations on Wednesday for those who have not complied. That said, thanks to those who took our last round of letters to heart - pleased to see all of you complied. It’s still tough going for pedestrians, especially at intersections, so take care walking and keep to the sidewalks.

The DPW crew is out today removing snow from the North Union Street parking lot and along North Union Street between Bridge and Coryell - a second thank you to everyone who moved their cars, allowing this work to occur smoothly and efficiently. Another smaller crew is out plowing. With the exception of tomorrow, Lester and I will make daily tours around the City to assess the neighborhoods.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • City offices are open again.
  • Trash and Recycling collection has been suspended until Monday, February 2nd.
  • Parking meter enforcement has been suspended through Friday evening (January 30th) to allow for additional parking - however please note that parking may be restricted due to snow removal in certain areas. “No Parking” signs will be posted in work areas

A tentative schedule for snow removal is as follows:

  • Wednesday: Kline’s Court, Ferry Street and South Union from Bridge to Ferry.
  • Thursday: North Union from Coryell to York, Coryell to Lambert Lane, Lambert Lane to Bridge Street.
  • Friday: Swan Street and anything else they couldn’t finish earlier in the week.

“No Parking” signs for the following day’s closures will be posted each afternoon. If you’re at a meter, check after 3 pm to see if you need to move your vehicle before the next morning. Please continue to check Facebook and the City website for up-to-minute information.

We have submitted a work order to the state for snow removal on Bridge Street. We will have a smaller crew out all week doing their best to continue to plow trouble spots and open up parking where possible. There are no plans to remove snow outside of the Central Business District as the crew will have to return to normal duties on Monday.

My thanks to Hunterdon County for supplying a driver and dump truck to help with snow removal. Also, thanks to West Amwell Public Works for sending staff and equipment resources, and to the Lambertville MUA team for their help.

I have to take tomorrow off and cannot respond to emails, texts, or calls before Thursday, but if you need anything, please call City Hall at 609-397-0110.

Dear neighbors,

A lot to be thankful for today. No one lost power. And because you stayed off the roads, there were no reported accidents. That said, as we transition from emergency operations to clean-up operations, we’ll ask for your continued cooperation and patience as the City employees work to restore the roads, sidewalks, and City services.

The DPW crew is out today clearing parking lots, intersections, and other trouble spots around the neighborhoods. The side streets may still be difficult to pass. If you must go out, please stick to main roads and stay off of side streets as much as possible.

The team will also be clearing sidewalks along our municipally-owned buildings and parks. To the extent possible, the crew will clear unused parking spaces on downtown residential streets where there may be an open length. This may result in a few higher piles between spaces, but it may open up spaces here and there.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Trash and Recycling have been suspended until Monday, February 2nd. Any bulk trash pickups scheduled for this week will be collected next week.

  • Parking will be suspended tomorrow (Tuesday, January 27th) in the North Union Street parking lot and along North Union Street from Bridge to Coryell to allow for snow removal. “No Parking” signs will be posted this afternoon. Please move your cars from these areas.

  • Parking meter enforcement has been suspended through Friday evening (January 30, 2026) to allow for additional parking.

  • The warming shelter at the Phillip L. Pittore Justice Center (25 S. Union Street) has been suspended. Please call 609-397-3132 for non-emergency police assistance.

  • City offices and the Court will reopen tomorrow (Tuesday, January 27th).

At least for now, my plan is to take this day by day. I am in constant contact with the City staff and we’ll continue to have daily 9 am meetings to plan for the next day’s activities. As you likely understand, there are many considerations that go into every decision I make, but I’ve got lots of help to make the best ones for your continued safety.

Quite a few of you have called me and that’s great. I want to answer your questions and help as I am able. Stay warm!

Andrew

Sunday, 1/25/2026, 5:30 PM

Dear neighbors,

Hope you're all safe and warm and making the best of the weather.

The DPW crew has been out since 5:00 am. The streets were salted and, with help from the LMUA employees, the crew has been plowing all day. City staff and I met this afternoon and will meet again tomorrow at 9 am to plan next steps. You can expect an update by mid day.

Here's what you need to know for the moment:

  • In a 5 pm call with local mayors, representatives from JCP&L noted that there have only been a very few scattered outages in the last 24 hours and they do not expect widespread outages in the days ahead.

  • The DPW crew will salt the streets again this evening and continue to plow until everything is clear.

  • The DPW crew will clear municipal sidewalks and parking lots tomorrow (Monday, January 26, 2026).

  • The Pittore Justice Center (25 S. Union Street) will remain open as a warming shelter until further notice.

  • Parking meter enforcement has been suspended tomorrow (Monday January 26th, 2026).

  • City Staff will be working from home tomorrow (Monday January 26th, 2026) - City Hall offices and the Court and Violations office will be closed.

And remember:

  • When clearing your sidewalks, do not throw snow into the street.

  • If the power does go out, please report it to JCP&L.

  • Do not use gas or kerosene space heaters, stoves, or untested fireplaces for heat.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Andrew
