DEPARTMENT OF Public Works

The Public Works Department does the hard work required to maintain and upgrade Lambertville’s infrastructure, keeping the City’s physical appearance beautiful and doing it in an environmentally-friendly way. This includes maintaining roads, storm sewers and parks, clearing snow and assisting during storms and flooding.

The Department also operates garbage disposal and single-stream recycling for the more than 4,100 residents in the City. Click here to determine the day of your regular weekly pickup.

BULK TRASH PICKUP

Have a large item for disposal? Schedule a bulk pickup. Items are priced individually per item, depending on size and weight. Review the online form for pricing and pickup information.
Online: Click here for the online request form.
In Person: Visit the Clerk's Office at 18 York Street during normal business hours.

If your item requires wrapping in plastic, large furniture bags are available at the Clerk's Office for $5 each. Any fabric or upholstered item (including rugs, chairs, mattresses and boxsprings) are reqiured to be fully wrapped in plastic in order to be collected.

CONVENIENCE CENTER HOURS

Residents are welcome to bring loose lawn waste and yard debris to be dropped off for composting on scheduled days each month. Paper lawn bags are not required - in fact they are not accepted - contents must be dumped into the bin at the yard.

The Convenience Center is located at 120 Quarry Street. Please use the second entrance due to yard construction.

The Convenience Center is open monthly on the first and third Saturdays from 9am to 12pm, and on the third Wednesday from 3pm to 5pm.

ELECTRONICS & HAZARDOUS WASTE RECYCLING

The City no longer accepts electronics of any type, nor any hazardous materials. Thankfully, several free drop-off opportunities are made available to residents by the Hunterdon County Health Department Solid Waste and Recycling Services. The County offers multiple electronics recycling drop-off, hazardous waste disposal, and Ident-a-Shred (document shredding) days throughout the year.

Hunterdon County Drop-Off Day Schedule

You can also take certain electronics to the following organizations (call in advance to check on what they are willing to accept): Goodwill, Best Buy, or Staples.

Additional resources for the recycling of unusual materials may be found here: https://www.co.hunterdon.nj.us/338/Resources

HOLIDAY COLLECTION FOR TRASH & RECYCLYING

Residential trash and recycling pickups are rescheduled on City holidays. Please review the holiday collection schedule to anticipate any changes to your normal collection day.

LAWN & LEAF BAG PICKUP

Lawn/leaf collection occurs year-round on Thursdays (weather permitting). To schedule a pickup, please call the Public Works Office and leave a message with your name, address, and number of bags to be collected. You can also send an email with that information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Leaf pickups are on Thursdays for requests received prior to noon on the Wednesday before. (Miss the deadline? You'll be on for the following week).

Please take note: Leaf and lawn debris needs to be placed in compostable/biodegradable bags in order to be collected. Paper leaf bags are available at any local hardware store or grocery store. Since the paper bags decompose themselves, they contribute to the composting process of the leaf and lawn debris. Plastic bags are not permitted (per City Ordinance No. 16-2013 § 12-1.9; amended 4-21-2022 by Ord. No. 05-2022). Lawn debris in plastic bags will not be collected. Please avoid overstuffing paper leaf bags - they may tear, or become too heavy to be easily moved into the trucks.
